Frequently asked questions

Who owns which fence? Is it true that every house owns the left hand side fence, as you look at it from the street?

There is no general rule about whether you own the fence on the left or the fence on the right of your property. This should be identified in the conveyance deed (or the transfer deed) which boundaries the purchaser is responsible for.

How high can I have a fence installed?

The height of fences is a matter of local planning policy. To find out what is allowed in your area contact the local authority planning office. As a general rule, fences in rear gardens are allowed to be up to 2 metres high.

What can I do when my neighbour won't repair their fence?

Unless your neighbour gives you permission, you cannot:

  • Paint, stain or varnish your neighbour’s fence to make it a more attractive;
  • Fix close boards or panels to your side of the fence in order to conceal the support rails;
  • Attach trellis or anything to support plants that you wish to grow up your side of your neighbour’s fence.

What you can do is:

  • Erect your own fence in front of your neighbour’s fence.
  • Plant free standing hedges or shrubs to hide the fence from your view

Mansfield Fencing recently replaced my fencing, trellis and pergola. From quote to completion Billy was thoroughly professional. Work was completed to a high standard, on time and with minimal inconvenience to us. Billy kept us informed of progress throughout the contract and kept the site tidy and secure at all times.

I have no hesitation in recommending Billy and will invite him to quote for similar projects in the future.

I am so glad that a friend recommended Mansfield Fencing and Landscaping when I mentioned I wanted some work done. The whole experience was professional and the work of an excellent standard. From start to finish Billy was friendly, listened to my ideas and offered options. The result was replacement fencing that transformed my garden and a solid lockable side gate. Thank you so much Billy!

Billy replaced my front garden fence. It was hard work due to a hidden brick foundation, but he managed to complete the job on time, and it looks amazing! The site was left clean and tidy. I would definitely recommend Mansfield Fencing. Thank you Billy.
